Below the line with Steenbeck: don't call her a 'home cook'

BTL (below the line) is a regular profile of a particularly delightful, prolific or controversial member of the Guardian comment community. For the next few weeks, we'll be highlighting the foodies among us. If you're passionate about food and life below the line, introduce yourself here.

If you're a die-hard Cif commenter or World news commenter, take the special editions of our surveys.

Latest comment: "I use fresh tomatoes in summer, canned in winter. I have a simple recipe that I can vary endlessly. I usually add herbs and a little smoked paprika. This one is quite quick. I also make a Spanish-style sofrito, which cooks for a long time till it's nice and jammy."

Tell us about your username. What, if anything, does it mean? Steenbeck was my old dog. She was wandering past, years ago, when I was trying to choose a name. It's also a film-editing machine, which is what the dog was named after.

Describe your commenting setup: I have an iMac in the living room, and I comment from here while my dog and my smallish boys mill about trying to get my attention. I live in America, so that's where I am!

What are your favorite places to eat where you live? What local recommendations do you give friends? My kitchen is my favorite place to eat. Well, my back yard, actually! I love cooking, and I love to sit in my yard in the summertime, drinking wine and eating everything I've cooked, talking to friends and family.

Describe your commenter persona in three words: Amused, enthusiastic, friendly.

How do you like your eggs? Scrambled on toast with lots of salt and pepper.

Have you ever attempted a recipe featured on the Guardian? How did it turn out? I've been inspired by recipes, but never followed one exactly, because I don't use recipes any more.

Do you have a crush on a Guardian journalist? If not a crush, which Guardian journalist do you think you'd be friends with? Tough question! No crushes. But I think Tim Dowling is very funny. And David Mitchell, of course!

Which commenters would you like to invite to a dinner party in real life? What would you cook for them? They wouldn't be from the food thread, they'd be from Reader's Recommend, and I'd feel petty and juvenile naming only a few, because I like them all so much. We'd have a big cookout on the fabled island in the middle of the Atlantic, and all take turns DJing.

Worst dining experience: If I don't really like food I'd probably just set it aside, as Cartman says, so I can't really think of a time I ate something I don't like.

What is one thing that people ATL in the food section should know about what goes on BTL? We don't like to be called "home cooks" (at least I don't.)
