6 Things | Philadelphia

Antiques | Antiquarian’s Delight

Unearth vintage gems in this large, old antique market located in the basement of a former synagogue. Pray that you'll find something unique. Bartender Al Sotack finds vintage cocktail glasses here.

Candy | Shane Confectionery

Established in 1863, this Philadelphia candy treasure has bragging rights to being the oldest continuously-run confectionery in the United States. Everything from their taffy to bars to bon bons are all hand-crafted. In 2011, the operation was purchased by the Berley brothers, who also own the Franklin Fountain Ice Cream Parlor. Bartender Al Sotack told us about this retro-sweet shop, “they have this huge library of turn of the century molds for hard candy and make everything from scratch.”

Vietnamese | Pho 75

Nothing special about the decor, but the low-key restaurant located on the corner of a Vietnamese shopping mall serves up pho that local chefs love...

“It’s super consistent and cheap and delicious and you sit at cafeteria tables. I get the number 14, (Tai, Sach) it’s made with steak and beef tripe.”

- Chef Michael Solomonov of Zahav in Philadelphia

“They do pho with beef tripe, the tendon and other stuff, but what I like about it is that they slice the beef rare and just let it sit on top of the soup, so it kind of slowly cooks.”

- Chef Joe Cicala of Le Virtu in Philadelphia

They have single-origin Stumptown coffee as well as coffee from a few small roasters like PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. from Topeka, KA.
